Bubble Gum's origins and lineage are unknown, as it is a strain developed during prohibition (a time when all cannabis, hemp, and marijuana were illegal). But what is known is that Bubble Gum is a cross between Indiana Bubble Gum and an unknown strain.
It eventually made its way to Amsterdam and into the hands of the famous seed company TH Seeds. From there, the mysterious strain went on to win the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1994, 1995, and 1999.
Is the Bubble Gum Strain Indica or Sativa?
Overall, most enthusiasts consider Bubble Gum to be an indica (technically an indica-dominant hybrid), though its effects do have some sativa-like properties. This makes Bubble Gum an excellent option for social gatherings and events where one wants to turn down the dial but not feel too sleepy.
That being said, all hemp is considered to be Cannabis sativa L. by the federal government. There is also a debate within the scientific community on whether
indica or sativa exist as separate species or just variations of the same species.
But to the average layperson, Bubble Gum is an indica.
Bubble Gum Terpenes
Ever wonder where plants get their distinctive scents? The answer lies with
aromatic compounds called terpenes. Terpenes are found in various species, from apples to pine trees and, yes, even cannabis. Each cannabis strain has its unique terpene profile, providing its distinctive scent and flavor.
The three most prevalent terpenes and flavor profiles in Bubble Gum are:
- Caryophyllene - "peppery"
- Myrcene - "herbal"
- Terpinolene - "citrus"
Aside from taste and smell, terpenes may be able to affect how THC interacts within the human body, playing just one major part in why one strain may affect us one way and another strain can affect us in another. The Bubble Gum we utilize in our products is the hemp version of this strain with different THC levels and THC content but the same terpene profile.
