THC Tinctures: Frequently Asked Questions

What Are THC Tinctures?

THC tinctures are liquid cannabis extracts derived from soaking cannabis in food-grade alcohol or oil to dissolve the THC-laden trichomes. Trichomes contain the full spectrum of the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes, but tinctures are typically developed to target a specific compound like THC or CBD. The result is a concentrated, easy-to-administer product.

Hometown Hero's line of cannabinoid tinctures (which we unabashedly believe are the best THC tinctures available today) are made with MCT oil for a smoother taste without the burn of alcohol.

What are the Benefits of THC Tinctures

Out of all the ways to consume cannabis, tinctures are prized because they offer a fast-acting, non-smoked route of ingestion. They are also more potent than smoked or vaped options and easier to dose. This makes them perfect for anyone seeking a controlled, predictable experience.

Many people rely on a daily serving of tincture before bed as a calming nighttime routine. Others count on a dropper or two of tincture for bouts of physical discomfort. Due to their fast-acting nature, tinctures are an excellent choice for those seeking quick relief.

How To Use THC Tinctures

Thanks to the built-in measuring dropper incorporated into the lid of every bottle, using THC tinctures is straightforward and convenient. Many people administer tinctures sublingually (a few drops are placed under the tongue for rapid absorption).

In contrast, others prefer to mix them into a beverage to disguise the natural, earthy taste (if the tincture is unflavored).

With our line of THC tinctures, we recommend starting with 0.25ml (1 drop). Wait at least 30 minutes for the effects to set in before deciding whether to return for a second drop.

We also suggest speaking with your doctor before trying hemp products if you are taking medications, as there can be interactions with some prescriptions. You should not use THC products if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and all products should be kept out of reach of children and pets.

What are the Effects of THC Tinctures?

Depending on serving size and tolerance, THC tinctures create several pleasant effects, including:
  • Euphoria
  • Relaxation
  • Physical Relief
Our tinctures contain Delta-8 THC, which is generally milder than Delta-9. If you are new to the effects of THC, whether it's delta-8 or another type, always start low and go slow to ensure the experience stays in a pleasant pocket and you reduce the risk of intense side effects.

How Long Do THC Tinctures Last?

Everyone's experience with cannabinoid tinctures can vary, so it's difficult to predict how long the effects will last. But it's safe to expect that the effects will take up to an hour to onset and may last for four to six hours. When in doubt, prepare for long-lasting effects that could linger longer than expected.

Do THC Tinctures Expire?

Yes. No matter where you find THC tincture for sale, it's a natural and ingestible product and, therefore, has a limited lifespan (at least in terms of potency). While tinctures are shelf stable and will last a lot longer than flower or baked goose, you may find their potency fades with time.

Check the label for the expiration date, and remember that light and oxygen exposure degrade cannabinoids over time, which reduces potency and effectiveness. To prevent your tincture from degrading, always seal the cap tightly and store the bottle in a cool, dark place.

Are THC Tinctures Stronger Than Edibles?

Whether it's an edible or a THC tincture, potency ultimately depends on the concentration of THC and the actual dosage you consume, not on whether it's in a tincture format or an edible one. The main difference between tinctures and edibles is that tinctures often have a faster onset time because most of the product gets absorbed through the lining of your mouth rather than slowly traveling through your digestive tract like edibles do.

How do you determine which one is stronger? Check the label of the tincture or the edible for the total THC in the package. With this information, you can determine an appropriate serving size based on the strength of experience you are seeking.
