Jack Herer's origins trace back to the mid-1990s, an eventful era of cannabis when other famous strains such as Sour Diesel and Super Silver Haze first began to emerge. Bred by Sensi Seeds, a renowned cannabis production company, Jack Herer was originally a marijuana strain with a high THC content. It was a cross between Haze, Northern Lights #5, and Shiva Skunk. 

But who is this Jack Herer that the strain was named after? Jack Herer, also called the "Emperor of Hemp" or simply, the "Hemperor," was a well-known cannabis activist and author. In High Times, he is regarded as a legend, and for good reason.

During his lifetime, Herer founded the Help End Marijuana Prohibition (HEMP) organization while fighting for cannabis legalization for both consumption and industrial purposes. In 1985, he famously wrote and self-published his book, The Emperor Wears No Clothes, which complies with the various uses and applications of cannabis.

Herer sadly passed away on April 15, 2010, but his legacy lives on through this beloved sativa strain and the continuing fight for cannabis access and legalization.
