Let's start with the basics: cannabis concentrate lifespan. If stored in ideal conditions (an airtight container and a dark environment), concentrates will keep for several months to upwards of a year.
But the real question is, how long do you intend to store the concentrate? A week? A few months? Storage duration will determine where you should keep it: on a shelf, in the fridge, or in the freezer.
Shelf Dab Storage
Regardless of the type of concentrate, for short-term storage needs, a cool, dark pantry or drawer works just fine. Stick with the golden rule of airtight glass containers and maintain a temperature range of between 54°F and 70°F, and this environment should help preserve the integrity of the product for around a week.
Refrigerator Dab Storage
But if you're looking to stretch shelf life a bit longer, the fridge is your friend. Keeping dabs a bit cooler, in the 34°F to 40°F range, can help maintain their consistency and quality, particularly when it comes to preserving terpenes. Be sure your container is airtight and let it come to room temperature before opening to avoid moisture issues.
Freezer Dab Storage
For extended storage needs (or for more delicate extracts), you can always turn to the freezer to help preserve your stash long term. We recommend taking the additional step of vacuum sealing your container to further remove the risk of oxygen exposure.
Can you freeze dabs? Yes! But the key to storing dabs in the freezer is to avoid the dreaded freeze-thaw cycle.
Bringing dabs in and out of the freezer for quick sessions can lead to moisture buildup in the container. This leads to cannabinoid and terpene degradation, and possibly contamination issues from excess condensation.
Only take that secret stash of concentrate out of the freezer if you intend to keep it out, and allow it to gradually come up to room temperature before opening the jar.
