Yes! Delta-9 is legal in Wisconsin. And you can buy edibles with 300mg of Delta-9 in them in Wisconsin, such as our Select Spectrum Cocoa Squares.

That’s because the Detla-9 is hemp-derived and below the 0.3% by dry weight limit.

So if you want to learn about Delta-9 products and what they have to offer, keep reading while we discuss hemp derived Delta 9 THC, legality, and the effects.

Is Delta 9 THC Legal in Wisconsin?

Yes! As of this writing, all cannabinoids that derive from hemp, including CBD, Delta 8, and Delta 9 are legal in Wisconsin. This is because the 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized the production of hemp and Wisconsin followed suit.

Now, this may leave you with some questions—how is Delta 9 THC legal in Wisconsin? Unfortunately, Wisconsin is one of the states that quite frankly is lagging in cannabis laws. However, according to Wis. Stat. § 94.55, you can legally purchase products containing hemp-derived Delta-9 THC as long as the concentration is at or below 0.3% on a dry weight basis.

Delta 9 has been associated with only marijuana in the past, but the truth is that one can extract it from both hemp and marijuana.

Let’s take a look at some of the specifics of Wisconsin’s hemp laws:

CHAPTER 94 - PLANT INDUSTRY

94.55  Hemp.

(1)  Definition. In this section, “ hemp” means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds thereof and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts, and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis or the maximum concentration allowed under federal law up to 1 percent, whichever is greater, as tested using post-decarboxylation or other similarly reliable methods. “Hemp” does not include a prescription drug product that has been approved by the U.S. food and drug administration.

(2) Regulation of hemp.

(a) Subject to the provisions under this section, a person may plant, grow, cultivate, harvest, produce, sample, test, process, transport, transfer, take possession of, sell, import, and export hemp in this state to the greatest extent allowed under federal law.

What’s Delta-9 THC?

Over years of research, we’ve learned that over 113 different cannabinoids can be extracted from the hemp plant. The most popular constituents of hemp include:

  • Delta 8
  • Delta 9
  • CBD (Cannabidiol)

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is just one of the many natural compounds found in both hemp and marijuana plants.

Like we mentioned earlier, Delta 9 THC used to be only associated with the marijuana plant.

Is Delta-9 Safe?

Generally, Delta-9 is safe. However, do not operate a vehicle or any type of machinery after taking any hemp products that contain THC. Keep in mind that cannabinoids affect every person differently. While there is no physical danger to worry about, some have reported feeling a bit “overwhelmed” after taking too much.

Like most things in life, moderation is key, especially when trying Delta-9 edibles for the first time. It’s always best to start out small and then figure out how to proceed from there. If you think you’ve accidentally taken too much, try and find an activity to calm your mind. We recommend listening to your favorite music, reading a novel, or going for a relaxing walk.

What Are the Effects of Delta 9 THC?

There are several cannabinoids that are likely to cause some sort of effect on the body. However, depending on which cannabinoids you consume, the effects may vary.

When it comes to taking Delta-9, cannabis enthusiasts have reported feeling:

  • Euphoria
  • Elation
  • Relaxation
  • Laughter

Depending on the amount that you take, you may experience different effects. Delta-9 products contain a blend of cannabinoids which includes CBD, Delta-9, and other cannabinoids. The desired entourage effect can promote some of these feelings.

For someone trying Delta-9 products for the first time, we recommend starting with a smaller dosage and working your way up if you think you need more.

What’s the Difference Between Delta 8 and Delta 9?

Even though Delta-8 and Delta-9 are cannabinoids both found in the hemp plant, they are not the same. Instead, each of these constituents has its unique differences and effects that vary from person to person.

You may have heard some people associate Delta-9 with “weed”. However, this is not the only form of THC on the market and Delta-9 can be sourced from hemp. Another popular form of THC includes Delta-8.

The difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 is in the molecular arrangement. They both have the same chemical formula, but the chemical bonds are located differently on each cannabinoid.

To break it down simply, Delta-9 has a chemical bond on the ninth carbon chain. On the other hand, Delta-8 has a chemical bond on the eighth carbon chain. It may not seem like a huge difference, but that’s what causes various effects on the body.

After taking Delta 8, you may feel uplifted, relaxed, and have an overall sense of wellbeing. When you take Delta 9, you may notice it has properties similar to Delta-8, but with different effects.
