Is Delta 9 THC Legal in Maine?

If you aren’t up to date on cannabis laws, it may lead you to wonder—is Delta-9 legal in Maine?

As of this writing, Delta-9 THC is legal in Maine. In 2019, industrial hemp was legalized in Maine under LD11. Since then, additional legislation has passed on regulation and licensing for industrial hemp and the sale of hemp-derived products under LD630.

In 2016, Maine became the fourth state to legalize recreational marijuana, but with a series of delays, cannabis sales didn’t begin until October 9th, 2020.

When President Donald Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill, it federally legalized the growth, sale, and distribution of hemp products.

To learn more about hemp law, here are some highlights of LD630 below:

Definition

(D.) "Hemp" means the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part of that plant, including the seeds and all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, acids, salts and salts of isomers, whether growing or not, with a delta‑9‑tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3% on a dry weight basis, or as otherwise defined in federal law. "Hemp" includes agricultural commodities and products derived from hemp and topical or ingestible consumer products, including food, food additives and food products derived from hemp, which in their final forms contain a delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol concentration of not more than 0.3% or as otherwise defined in federal law. "Hemp" does not include marijuana for medical use pursuant to Title 22, chapter 558‑C or adult use marijuana pursuant to Title 28‑B, chapter

Hemp not tracked as marijuana.

(10) Notwithstanding any provision of Title 22, chapter 558‑C or Title 28‑B, chapter 1 to the contrary, hemp and products derived from hemp may not be tracked as part of the medical use of marijuana program under Title 22, chapter 558‑C or the regulation of adult use marijuana under Title 28‑B, chapter 1.

What’s Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 THC is one of many cannabinoids that are located in hemp. In fact, there are over 100 cannabinoids that have been identified, yet the most prevalent compounds produced today are Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 THC, and CBD.

It’s a common misconception to label Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol as “weed,” but in actuality, it is a natural cannabinoid that can be derived from hemp and marijuana. So how do we take cannabinoids out of hemp?

At Hometown Hero, you can guarantee quality because we use small batch manufacturing practices along with extensive testing. Plus, test results from a third-party DEA-registered lab are available on our website for each product.

We have complete confidence that our products are safe and effective because of the methods we use.

What Are The Effects of Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 has a history of causing multiple effects, but everyone has a different experience. Depending on how your body processes Delta-9, you may not experience the effects listed below, but they might arise. That said, after consuming Delta-9, cannabis fans have reported feeling:

  • Euphoria
  • Giggly
  • Calm
  • Relaxed
  • Motivated

We know that our gummies taste delicious, but don’t overindulge. If you consume a large amount, you may begin to have “intense” sensations that could feel uncomfortable. These effects may be avoidable by consuming a small portion, so you can estimate where your tolerance lies.

Can You Buy Delta 9 in Maine?

Did you know that buying Delta-9 in Maine is as simple as shopping anywhere else? As long as you are 21 years or older, you can buy Delta-9 at a dispensary, CBD store, or online.

But here’s the thing. You can only buy Delta-9 products online in Maine if the Delta-9 is hemp-derived and meets federal guidelines. According to federal law, a hemp product can contain 0.3% or less of hemp-derived Delta-9 on a dry weight basis. If the product exceeds this limit, it cannot be shipped and will become federally illegal.

Is Delta 9 Safe?

Like any product that contains THC, Delta-9 is generally safe. Although there is very little risk of physical danger from the cannabinoid itself, you cannot drive a vehicle or operate any heavy machinery after consuming a product that contains THC.

Moderation is key if you are looking for an uplifting experience. As tempting as it is, avoid consuming a large amount of Delta-9 because it may lead you to feel “overwhelmed,” which could negatively impact your experience.

Whether you are using our hemp products or another company, remember to start small and wait for the effects to activate. If you feel that you took too much, don’t sweat it. It is a common error that most people have made, and in a few hours, the effects will dissipate. In the meantime, focus your attention on an activity that keeps you occupied and comfortable.
