Kava + Ashwagandha Dark Chocolate Bar

Overview

For centuries, indigenous peoples across the South Pacific have embraced the ground-up roots of Kava to lift moods and promote feelings of contentment and full-bodied relaxation. Across the drier regions of India, the Middle East, and other parts of Asia, people have traditionally cultivated Ashwagandha for its ability to turn down the dial on daily worries.

Within every bite of this artisan-crafted indulgence, you will feel the tingle of Kava yet taste none of its associated bitterness as we've infused it into the rich decadence of dark chocolate. But what follows is a relieving excursion for both mind and body.

Giving You All The Good Stuff.

WAY overpriced! The chocolate was okay; I didn't experience anything out of the ordinary. It's not for me.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kava?

Kava (Piper methysticum) is a shrub native to the South Pacific Islands, where societies have cultivated it for various cultural practices. Its rootstock is usually harvested, ground into a milky pulp, and then filtered to make a beverage with a wide range of relaxing psychoactive properties. Today, it is common to find this sacred drink served in kava bars, but the plant has also been used to make other products, such as capsules, powdered root extracts, and mixed drinks.

Is Kava legal?

As of this writing, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) does not recognize kava as a controlled substance, nor do any state governments. That means if you're 21 or older, you can legally enjoy kava and have it delivered to your home. You should be safe traveling with kava products domestically via an airline if the medium complies with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) standards. However, we do not recommend traveling abroad with kava products.

What are the effects of Kava?

Although individual experiences vary, one universal effect of consuming kava is a tingly, numbing sensation on the tongue. Enthusiasts have also reported feeling stimulated, euphoric, and carefree. Therefore, kava’s effects are often compared to those of alcohol, with less acuteness and no hangover. The active ingredients in Kava, called Kavalactones, interact with the body's GABA receptors and CB1 receptors to produce these desirable effects.

Is Kava safe?

When consumed in moderation, kava poses very little threat of physical danger. However, if you have a history of liver problems, are taking prescription medications, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are drinking alcohol, it is not recommended you take kava. If you are getting treatment for a medical condition, consult your doctor before trying kava.

What kind of Kava do you use in your dark chocolate bars?

The two main varieties of Kava are Noble and Tudei. Both have been used in the Pacific Islands for a variety of purposes, but their kavalactone profiles and effects vary considerably. For our products, we use Noble Kava as it is believed to be the highest quality and safest form of kava for regular consumption.

What is Ashwagandha?

Native to the regions of India, the Middle East, and other parts of Asia, Ashwagandha is an evergreen shrub from the nightshade family. It is also known as an Indian ginseng and winter cherry and has been used for thousands of years in traditional Indian medicine. Recent clinical studies suggest the plant has potential health benefits, but the main reason it is cultivated is to help relieve stress.
