There are a few mythical strains out there that define a generation. One of the most renowned is the Pink Panther strain, a sativa-dominant variety with several origin stories.
If you've ever wondered where Pink Panther came from, its reported effects, and flavor profile, get ready. Here, we cover everything about Pink Panther, from uplifting effects to its stereotypical mysterious lineage.
Origins of Pink Panther
Pink Panther- not to be confused with the 1960s film series- is one of those legendary strains with its past shrouded in mystery. According to Seed Finder's research on this cultivar, "Pink Panther is an unknown variety from unknown origin."
One theory is that Pink Panther has Blackberry as part of its lineage. Blackberry comes from a cross between The Black and Afghani. If this is the case, it would mean that if you trace its DNA back further, Pink Panther is very closely related to several prominent landraces (original wild strains that evolved naturally), including Afghan and Mexican ones.
A second story about the origins of Pink Panther is that it's actually a rename of Pink Plant strain, which is a cross between High Level and TNT Kush.
Most newer cannabis strains come with an interesting backstory. We definitely know what was crossed, the seed bank, and, in some cases, even the name of the specific person behind the new phenotype. But with Pink Panther, we actually know very little. It's been around since long before breeders kept the meticulous records they do today.
Is Pink Panther Indica or Sativa?
Pink Panther is a
sativa, or technically a sativa-dominant hybrid. This is expressed in how the plants grow, as they naturally grow larger and bushier than indica varieties. Sativas can have a fruity or tropical aroma, which aligns with the notes of sweet, pear, and stone fruits you'll get when you open a package of Pink Panther.
In terms of effects, most people say Pink Panther is more energizing than calming, which tracks with sativa stereotypes. People who have tried it tend to report feeling happy, euphoric and uplifted.
But, as we learn more about cannabis, we are also learning that
indica vs. sativa labels are largely meaningless. Everything these days is a hybrid of some sort, including Pink Panther. The distinct effects of a strain are largely due to its dominant terpenes, which we'll get into next.
