Many of us have had the privilege of raising a dog and appreciate the life-changing nature of this experience. More than a mere pet, our furry friends embody loyalty and unconditional love where humans often fall short. They cheer us up when we’re down, listen to us vent, and ask for little in return- except for the occasional belly rub or treat, of course.
It’s one of the reasons
K9s for Warriors, an organization dedicated to ending veteran suicide, began. This program rescues, trains, and matches service dogs with military veterans suffering from
PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and/or military sexual trauma. For our nation’s heroes, this bond can do more than just change lives- it can save them, facilitating a path to mutual healing and recovery.
Since the beginning, Hometown Hero has been committed to the
support of veterans, so naturally, we had to team up with this amazing organization. Early last year, we
donated $35,000 to
sponsor a service pup named Delta.
Delta’s Journey to Become a Service Dog
Like the other pups in the program, Delta’s training to become a service dog lasted 6 to 8 months. We got to follow his amazing journey every step of the way, like proud parents watching their children grow.
Here are a few of Delta’s milestone moments with K9s for Warriors, with quotes we received directly from his training updates:
